Harry Arno is a Miami Beach bookie who finds himself in trouble with his mob bosses for reasons he can't quite figure out. When an assailant attempts to kill him, he decides that it's time to retire, so he relocates to Greece.

Living out his days in a nursing home, a secret is unearthed from the dark past of charismatic Salvatore Luciano.

Renato is a shy and insecure young man, who expresses what he truly thinks only through emails. He writes to his co-workers, girlfriend, parents… he doesn't hide anything, says everything he thinks. Absolutely everything! And when it's time to send… he doesn't. Goes to the drafts folder. One day, with no explanation, all of his drafts are sent, and suddenly he has to face the dire consequences of being who he really is.

Salvatore is a young orphan, living in Sicily with his little sister and his grandmother; after loosing his father in a tragic way he quits school and starts working as a fisherman and a farmer in order to support his little family. The Social Services soon discover the situation and resolve to put Salvatore in an orphanage, parting him from his family. Only a young, idealistic teacher (Enrico Lo Verso) tries to help him, going everyday after school to his house, to teach him the lessons he misses in the morning and to work with him in his greenhouse or on his fishing boat.

What would happen if the Johnny Carson show, met David Letterman and Conan O'Brien and they were all dead and still performing? We don't know ourselves, but we believe it would be something along the lines of this show.

At the end of the Second World War, Sicily becomes the GQ of the Allied forces. Struggling under the poverty and scarce resources brought about by the war, the young Giuliano is forced to steal to survive. Eventually he becomes leader of a band of thieves. One day Giuliano wishes to return a ring stolen from a countess, but the mafia intervenes. Instead of the countess, a woman Giuliano has never met before comes to claim the ring, and this meeting will change Giuliano's destiny....

Conducted by Riccardo Muti, the master of the Scala in Milan for twenty years, the Verdian melodrama unfolds before our eyes. This Cavani's approach is ageless and excellence is pre-eminent: to start with, the role of Riccardo is played by the wonderful Salvatore Licitra. As for Maria Guleghina, she plays an exceptionally good Amelia. Riccardo Muti proves once again what a wonderful Verdian he is.
